Victorian flair meets modern sensibilities

It takes more than faith, trust and pixie dust to pull off a successful event. To learn how Walt Disney World and Disney Cruise Line add magic to their clients’ gatherings, I spent five days with the Disney Meetings & Events team—on land and at sea.

The journey began at one of Walt Disney World’s deluxe resorts, the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. Framed by mature trees draped in picturesque Spanish moss, the resort, inspired by Victorian architecture, offers a refined, peaceful atmosphere that provides respite from the bustle of Walt Disney World’s four theme parks.

The Grand Floridian is well-suited for luxury corporate events, featuring the newly renovated Grand Floridian Ballroom, conference rooms, breakout spaces and boardrooms. The resort also houses two upscale restaurants—Citricos, available for private breakfasts of up to 170 guests, and Victoria & Albert’s, which has earned the AAA Five Diamond Award every year since 2000 and a Michelin star in 2024.

Options With Beachy Charm

For planners seeking a smaller, more intimate venue, the BoardWalk Inn—a waterfront resort that evokes 20th-century Atlantic City and Coney Island—offers a flexible alternative. With 370 guest rooms for meeting and event participants, more than 20,000 square feet of multi-use meeting space and nine dining and lounge venues throughout the BoardWalk district, the property lends itself to customizable gatherings.

A Space for Collaboration

At Disney Creative Studio, the reimagined headquarters for Disney Meetings & Events, clients get a behind-the-scenes look at event production. The space blends immersive brainstorming rooms with working studios, where florists, designers, caterers and artists bring concepts to life.

Here, Disney’s “event architects” collaborate with clients to tailor experiences to specific brand goals. Custom props, branded details and even live performers can be incorporated to deliver key messages through humor and audience engagement.

All Hands On Deck Aboard the Disney Wish

I then spent three nights on The Disney Wish, the cruise line’s fifth ship. With capacity for 1,555 crew members and 4,000 passengers, the vessel is designed to balance family-friendly offerings with elevated experiences for adults.

Highlights include a fairy-tale-themed atrium; immersive lounges inspired by popular Disney films and franchises such as The Princess and the Frog and Star Wars; high-end dining at adults-only restaurants Enchante and Palo; and engaging theater shows. Rotational dining is built into the schedule, giving passengers the opportunity to experience Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure—a theater-in-the-round dinner show; 1923, a restaurant that pays homage to Walt Disney’s golden age of animation; and Worlds of Marvel, where diners are encouraged to participate in an interactive experience with Marvel superheroes.

The ship is also equipped with a full-time group services manager, dedicated catering and advanced production capabilities, including high-quality lighting, laser systems and surround sound for presentations and performances.

Like most three-night sailings on the Wish, the itinerary includes a stop in Nassau, Bahamas, and a day at Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay. Nassau offers excursions and cultural experiences, including the Bahamas Museum of Junkanoo, while Castaway Cay provides a more controlled environment with activities such as biking, snorkeling and private cabana rentals for groups seeking added exclusivity.

What sets Disney apart isn’t just the scale of its venues—it’s the intentionality behind them. From ballroom to boardroom to open sea, each element is designed with story in mind. For planners, that translates into more than a well-executed event; it’s an opportunity to create experiences that resonate long after attendees return home. In a landscape where engagement is everything, Disney’s approach offers a clear takeaway—where story leads, impact is sure to follow.
