A connected destination for dining, wellness, nightlife and group experiences

The reopening of San Antonio’s South Alamo Street reconnects downtown, Southtown, the River Walk and Hemisfair while bringing the Arciniega District into the conversation. The district sets the tone for a walkable hospitality corridor featuring Kimpton Santo San Antonio – Riverwalk and The Plaza San Antonio Hotel & Spa, Autograph Collection.

Smart Meetings chatted with Lauren Garze, dual senior marketing manager for The Plaza San Antonio Hotel & Spa and Kimpton Santo San Antonio, about what the reopening means for meeting planners, groups and destination-focused programming in San Antonio.

Smart Meetings How do you see the reopening of South Alamo Street changing the way guests, groups and event attendees move between downtown, Southtown, the River Walk and Hemisfair?

Lauren Garze The reopening of South Alamo Street reestablishes a critical connection point between some of San Antonio’s most culturally vibrant districts. For guests and meeting attendees, it creates a more seamless experience between the River Walk, Hemisfair, Southtown and downtown, reinforcing the area as a truly walkable destination.

For Kimpton Santo and The Plaza San Antonio, that connectivity enhances accessibility while also reinforcing the district as an experiential hub where guests can move fluidly between dining, wellness, nightlife and gathering spaces without feeling confined to a traditional hotel footprint.

SM The Arciniega District is being positioned as a walkable hospitality and dining corridor. What should meeting planners know about how the two properties can work together for group experiences, off-site events or multi-stop activations?

LG The Arciniega District was intentionally designed to create a layered hospitality experience across the two properties. Together, Kimpton Santo and The Plaza San Antonio give meeting planners access to multiple culinary concepts, rooftop experiences, wellness programming, private dining venues, courtyards and social spaces all within walking distance of one another.

This allows groups to build customized, multi-stop itineraries that feel immersive and distinctly San Antonio, whether that includes welcome receptions at Tenfold Rooftop, cocktail experiences at The Study and Anaqua Garden Bar, private dinners at Dean’s Steak & Seafood and Corinne, wellness activations at Spa Plaza San Antonio, or outdoor programming across the Oasis Lawn at The Plaza San Antonio and the historic courtyard at Kimpton Santo.

Rather than relying on a single venue experience, planners have the ability to curate a fully connected district experience for attendees that blends dining, nightlife, wellness and culture in a way that feels both elevated and distinctly local.

SM A lot of the programming leans into rooftops, courtyards, wellness, culinary experiences and nightlife. How are those elements shaping the attendee or guest experience in San Antonio right now?

LG Today’s travelers and meeting attendees are prioritizing experiences that feel intentional, social and locally connected. Rooftops, outdoor courtyards, wellness-driven programming and culinary storytelling naturally encourage longer engagement and more meaningful interaction among guests.

At both properties, these elements allow us to create programming that feels experiential rather than transactional. From rooftop cocktail hours and chef-driven dinners to spa experiences and outdoor gatherings beneath the live oaks, the focus is on creating memorable moments that reflect the energy and culture of San Antonio in a more elevated and modern way.

SM For planners looking to create more destination-driven programming, what makes this district especially useful as a built-in activation space rather than just a place to stay?

LG The Arciniega District was designed to function as more than just a hotel stay; it serves as a fully integrated hospitality and event destination in the heart of San Antonio. Together, Kimpton Santo and The Plaza San Antonio offer 600 guest rooms and more than 55,000 sq. ft. of flexible indoor and outdoor meeting and event space, giving planners the ability to host everything from large-scale conferences and executive retreats to weddings, receptions, birthday celebrations, corporate holiday parties and gala events, all within one connected, walkable district footprint.

The district features a wide variety of room types, ranging from historic suites to spacious guest rooms with private balconies overlooking the city. Positioned between downtown and Southtown, the Arciniega District creates a highly walkable guest experience that places attendees in the center of San Antonio’s dining, nightlife, culture and entertainment scene.

Rather than feeling confined to a traditional convention environment, attendees experience a connected hospitality district that blends meetings, nightlife, wellness and local culture into one immersive San Antonio experience.

SM Are there elements from the six-week activation series that could be adapted for private groups, corporate events or incentive programs?

LG Absolutely. Many elements from the six-week activation series were intentionally designed with scalability and customization in mind. Experiences such as rooftop receptions, culinary programming, wellness activations, cocktail experiences, live entertainment and curated district-wide itineraries can all be adapted for private groups, incentive travel and corporate programming.

A standout example is Kimpton Santo’s limited-time Grand Reveal Package, available for booking now for stays between May 28 and July 5. The experience was created to celebrate the reopening of the hotel’s South Alamo front drive and includes a private two-hour River Walk boat cruise paired with a chef-driven five-course tasting menu and curated beverage pairings.

For groups and corporate programs, this experience can be expanded into exclusive private boat buyouts, sunset cocktail cruises, executive dining experiences or incentive activations tailored specifically for teams and attendees. The ability to pair these experiences with rooftop events, wellness programming at Spa Plaza San Antonio, cocktail experiences at The Study and district-wide dining activations allows planners to create immersive itineraries that feel elevated, highly customized and distinctly San Antonio.
