The board of directors from the San Francisco Convention & Visitors Bureau voted unanimously to change the organization’s name to the San Francisco Travel Association. Because the organization has grown and developed over the past century, Joe D’Alessandro, the president and CEO of the SFCVB, says that the word “bureau” doesn’t accurately describe them anymore. “We are far from ‘bureaucratic,” D’Alessandro said in a recent press release. Although the new name will officially be San Francisco Travel Association, it will primarily be branded as San Francisco Travel.
The name change is just one of the outcomes of the SFCVB’s yearlong centennial project, which involved researching various nationwide and industry trends. The project also includes strategic planning, technology planning, visitor research and more, on how the organization will face the next 100 years. The name change will be effective as of Jan. 11, 2011. onlyinsanfrancisco.com
