Bogota, Columbia, has been selected as the first South American partner of BestCities Global Alliance, another sign that the organization is bent on expanding into new markets.

The city was selected largely because the city receives high marks on all criteria for membership, including attractiveness, accessibility, front-line service, pre- and post-touring options, infrastructure, future investment and value.

Also, the Greater Bogota Convention Bureau, although new, displays many of the qualities that the alliance looks for in a partner, including a strong commitment and willingness to embrace the BestCities Quality Management System to improve their internal processes, and full support of the city, regional and federal governments.

Karen Bollinger, BestCities’ board chair, said that the inclusion of a South American partner is important both for the organization’s geographical growth as well as for strategic expansion that will attract new clients and provide alliance partners with more business and learning opportunities.

The addition of Bogota follows the admission of Tokyo last year as BestCities’ regional affiliated member and the first from North East Asia.

BestCities Global Alliance consists of convention bureaus that provide assistance to planners in arranging meetings and events.
