Smart Snapshot:

With its central location—halfway between Kansas City and St. Louis—Jefferson City offers convenience and affordability. Jefferson City, the state’s capital, named after President Thomas Jefferson, borders the Missouri River and is close to the geographic center of the state. It also borders the Missouri Rhineland, one of the largest wine-producing regions in the state.

The capital building is a defining landmark in the city and a dominant attraction.  It featured a regal domed construction mirroring the nation’s capital building; and with its location on a bluff overlooking the Missouri River, it gives the feeling that it’s observing the downtown area below.  The location of the capital has historical significance as well; Lewis and Clark passed over the site on their way upriver.
