A Cut Above the Rest

Barry Brown knew early on that he was destined for success in the hospitality industry. Over the course of his 30-year career in hotel sales, he carefully honed the skills necessary to deliver exceptional experiences his clients crave. When he was hired last year as vice president of sales and marketing at The Broadmoor, Brown’s appointment was considered quite a coup for the Forbes Five Star and AAA Five Diamond resort in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

“We are so pleased to bring such a highly respected leader in the hospitality industry to The Broadmoor. Barry is widely recognized as one of the best sales and marketing professionals in the business,” says Jack Damioli, president and CEO.

It all began during a family trip to New York City. The Pennsylvania native made his first site inspection visit with his father, who at the time was a site selection chair member of an educational association. From the amenities to the hotel staff, Brown took the entire experience in, perhaps knowing that one day he would work there himself.

Brown has served at various upscale resorts, including Hotel del Coronado outside San Diego and Sanibel Harbour Marriott Resort & Spa in Fort Myers, Florida. He was named by Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International as Resort Marketer of the Year in 2011 and as one of the Top 25 Most Extraordinary Minds in Sales and Marketing in 2009.

Beyond the accolades, striving to meet goals and working together as a team are among Brown’s most rewarding experiences. Without an extraordinary hotel staff, he believes that exceptional hotels would not achieve the status and recognition they have today.

“The setting is wonderful. But the magic is in the people,” Brown says. “We have a culture that is second to none in taking care of our guests and each other. I put our team up on a pedestal every day.”
