Voters Foil Wynn’s Plans for Boston-Area Casino
Wynn Resorts Ltd. knows when it isn’t wanted. The Las Vegas company and the ownership of the New England Patriots decided to abandon their plans to build a $1 billion resort southwest of Boston in Foxborough, Mass., after voters elected two anti-casino candidates to the city’s Board of Selectmen on Monday. The proposed resort would have been adjacent to the football team’s home field, Gillette Stadium.
Wynn had been one of three Nevada gaming companies competing for a single gaming license for eastern Massachusetts. MGM Resorts International previously dropped its plan for a resort in Brimfield, Mass., which leaves Caesars Entertainment Corp.’s proposal for a casino at Suffolk Downs horse track northeast of Boston as the leading contender. lvrj.com
