TSA Agent Faces Theft Charge
A Transportation Security Administration agent at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York is accused of stealing cash from a customer. Police say Alexandra Schmid, 31, took $5,000 from a Bangladeshi passenger’s jacket as it went through X-ray screening. A surveillance video allegedly shows Schmid wrapping the money in a plastic glove and taking it to a bathroom. Police continue to investigate what happened to the cash. Schmid, who has worked for the agency for more than four years, has been suspended and charged with grand larceny.
There have been a number of allegations of theft against TSA staff in the last year, including an agent at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport who was discovered with a number of iPads at his home and a supervisor and officer at Newark Liberty International Airport who pleaded guilty to taking more than $10,000 from customers. abcnews.go.com
