Tiger Woods-Designed Golf Course Under Construction at Mexican Resort

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, will be home to the world’s first golf course designed by Tiger Woods. With a budget of $12 million, work began in September on Woods’ design at Diamante, a planned resort community under development on 1,500 acres of oceanfront property about five miles from downtown Cabo. The 7,300-yard course, named El Cardonal, will be adjacent to The Resort at Diamante, which began construction in 2011 and will feature more than 240 two- to four-bedroom suites. The course will be Diamante’s second, joining the Dunes Course, which debuted in 2009 and was the top Mexican course on Golf Digest’s 2012 ranking of courses outside the United States. Construction of El Cardonal is expected to take 18 months. Woods previously signed other course design contracts, but the recession halted those projects. golf.com
