Pilfered Property from the Waldorf Astoria Finds Its Way Home

The Waldorf Astoria New York is offering guests—or descendants of guests—who made off with hotel property the chance to return it, no questions asked. The goal of the amnesty program, which began July 1, is less about recovering valuables than generating interest in the 129-year-old property’s history through social media and a display in the hotel lobby. Returned items have included a silver creamer found at a yard sale to a “do not disturb” sign taken by a honeymooning couple as a romantic souvenir. The most famous item to disappear from the building—a shower door from Frank and Nancy Sinatra’s apartment carved with their initials—is still missing, however. huffingtonpost.com
