One Airport Expansion Ends, Another Begins
The $2.4 billion expansion of Las Vegas' McCarran International Airport's new Terminal 3 opened Thursday, crowning it the first unit terminal to be constructed in the United States in the post-9/11 era. No sooner was this completed than Orlando International Airport officials announced a possible $470 million expansion. The construction would begin next year with a scheduled completion date of 2015, and would include a train depot and parking garage. Several hurdles potentially stand in the way of the expansion, including the recession, contractual agreements and the possibility that another terminal will be needed, adding $1 billion to the project cost.
