Convention Complex in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Names New DOSM

William Tirone has been promoted to the newly created position of director of sales and marketing for the DoubleTree by Hilton Cedar Rapids Convention Complex in Iowa, which is scheduled to open next year. Formerly a Crown Plaza, the city-owned hotel is undergoing renovations as part of a $130 million redevelopment project that also includes improvements to the adjacent U.S. Cellular Arena and the construction of a new convention center. All three projects are scheduled for completion in June. When it opens, the hotel will feature 267 guest rooms and 11,500 sq. ft. of new meeting space.

Tirone comes to the complex from another combination hotel and convention facility, the Hiltons of Branson and the Branson Convention Center in Missouri, where he served as assistant general manager. He has 30 years of meeting-planning experience in the hospitality industry and has completed the Convention Industry Council’s Certified Meeting Professional and International Association of Exhibition and Events’s Certified in Exhibition Management programs.
