A Howlin’ Great Time

June 2007

Quick Quips

Remember how much fun summer camp was—lots of activities, lots of new friends and a nifty cabin to stay in. Well, that’s just the experience Camp Bow Wow, a doggie day and overnight camp, offers to furry friends when their owners are heading out of town.

Here, Rover or Rusty or Snook’ums (or whatever) have plenty of room to play indoors and outdoors, with flaps between the two areas that allow the dogs to go in and out as they choose.

There are “play groups” and outdoor play equipment to romp around on, says Heidi Flammang, Top Dog and CEO. And, no surprise, “they spend a lot of time chasing each other.”

Overnight campers get an evening campfire treat and their own spacious cabin. But the best feature yet—from their owner’s perspective—is the 24/7 live Web cam. Anxious “parents” can just open their laptop, log onto the camp’s site and see exactly where their pooch is and what he or she is up to. Instant relief.

The need to have her own dogs boarded was the inspiration behind Flammang’s venture. “We’d abused our friends and relatives enough,” she says with a laugh. And the idea of a nontraditional kennel worked: Camp Bow Wow, which originated in Colorado in 2000, is extending its paws throughout North America, with 175 locations already on the roster. Just this year alone, 11 new camps are slated to open in California, among them Huntington Beach, Burbank/North Hollywood, Monterey and San Diego.

There’s another bone-us as well (sorry, we couldn’t resist the pun!): your attendees have lost their last excuse for not attending a meeting or conference! campbowwowusa.com
