Known for its beaches, and compatibility with eco-tourism, Tamaulipas is a wonderland of sand, surf and lush forest.
The state, located on the Gulf of Mexico, has 260 miles of beach, and inland has more than 356,989 acres of nature reserves. Tampico is a top beach destination and is also the site of some historical attractions. The Catedral de la Inmaculada Concepcion is adorned with Byantin-style mosaics, and is located right in town off the beach.
The El Cielo Biosphere Reserve is a perfect place for camping, bike riding, and exploring the natural foliage. Keeping these untouched natural wonders in mind, the more urban areas have made an effort to keep the rural bucolic feeling alive. Even the most bustling city centers maintain the feel of small quiet villages.
