Designed by Walter T. Steilberg, this National Landmark Hotel is part of the rich and diverse history of the Bay Area.
The Bancroft Hotel's 22 peaceful, airy rooms with their spectacular sweeping views of the San Francisco Bay and the Berkeley Hills are meticulously furnished using designs by architect Walter T. Steilberg.
The Bancroft Hotel building was constructed in 1928 as a private clubhouse by the College Women's Club, a group of Panhellenic women. Inspired by California's Mediterranean climate and vast landscape, noted Bay Area architect Walter T. Steilberg, an associate of Julia Morgan, created a distinguished example of the area's internationally known Arts and Crafts movement.
