SILICON VALLEY (LOS GATOS)

By Carolyn Koenig
Only l5 minutes from downtown San Jose, Los Gatos is a pocket of affluence in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains, with a casual, charming downtown made for strolling. Small groups seeking a non-urban setting will find the village an enjoyable respite.

Of note are two small hotels within walking distance of high-end fashion stores, art galleries, cafes and restaurants. Los Gatos Lodge (128 rms, 5,000 sq. ft.; losgatoslodge.com) is a boutique property with 10 acres of gardens and the capacity to hold outdoor events for 300. The recently renovated Toll House Hotel (115 rms, 8,000 sq. ft.; tollhousehotel.com) is another pretty option.

Testarossa Vineyards (testarossa.com), a historic 19th-century winery minutes from downtown Los Gatos, offers a tranquil, wooded setting and several appealing meeting and event options, including a wine cave (up to 80 guests). In nearby Saratoga, Villa Montalvo (80 to 300 guests; villamontalvo.org) is a majestic, 175-acre Mediterranean-style estate with gardens, a nature trail and an outdoor amphitheater. Back to Top
