EVERYTHING BUT THE STRESS (ST. GEORGE)
By Rob Bhatt
A moderate climate (more than 300 days of sunshine a year and winter temperatures between 55 and 65 degrees) and scenic surroundings make St. George an ideal staging area for exploration of southern Utah’s scenic wonders as well as a pleasurable destination in its own right.
The city is 42 miles away from Zion National Park, one of five national parks that dot the dessert landscape (the others are Bryce Canyon, Arches, Canyonland and Coral Reef).
The recreational amenities in St. George itself include 11 year-round golf courses and luxury destination spas such as the Green Valley Resort & Spa and the Red Mountain Spa, while Southern Utah Scenic Tours (888-404-8687) offers guided tours of Zion.
The area’s hotels and meeting venues provide 71,000 total square feet of meeting and convention space. The area’s largest meeting site, the Dixie Center (utahstgeorge.com), offers 47,500 square feet of meeting space in its 10 meeting rooms, pre-event areas and concession facilities. In Zion National Park, the Zion Lodge (utah.com/zion) is available for events on a limited basis, with capacity for 85 people.
Getting There
United and Delta airlines offer several flights a day to St. George Municipal Airport via Los Angeles International Airport and Salt Lake City International Airport. The area can also be reached via a two-hour drive from Las Vegas or a four-hour drive from Salt Lake City.
