Kalispell is the largest city in northwest Montana and one of the state’s fastest growing, registering a 40% increase in population between 2000 and 2010. The city is nestled in the picturesque Flathead Valley, a popular escape for those seeking the expansive wonder of the Great West and the setting for several resorts that epitomize the Montana mountain experience.
Kalispell is just 15 minutes north of Flathead Lake, the largest natural freshwater lake in the western continental United States, and a half hour southwest of Glacier National Park, home to more than 700 miles of hiking trails and 763 lakes. The region presents endless opportunities for such summer pastimes as hiking, biking, fly-fishing, horseback riding, boating and berry picking, as well as plenty of snow for skiing and winter recreation.
At an elevation of 2,959 feet, Kalispell offers nourishing wide-open spaces with mountain views and crisp air. It is also the birthplace of actress Michelle Williams and Oscar-winning director Brad Bird.
