NY Lawmakers Take Gamble on CasinosDestination News

New York took a step towards legalizing public casinos, as state lawmakers on Wednesday reached an agreement on an amendment to the state constitution. The proposal would allow up to seven casinos with table games to operate in the state, creating competition for Atlantic City’s resorts and other nearby gambling destinations. Details such as where the casinos would be located will not be decided until the 2013 legislative session, and voters would still have to approve the amendment. New York currently allows table games at Indian casinos and electronic games at racetracks. The decision is just the latest in a decade-long debate about expanding gambling in the state. reuters.com
